Mission of the Program
The Echols Scholars Program in the College of Arts & Sciences draws together a diverse community of students united by their potential for significant intellectual engagement at UVA and beyond. Because of their deep curiosity and intrinsic motivation, Echols Scholars enjoy flexibility in their academic requirements in order to pursue their individual scholarly interests. Echols Scholars participate in unique communal programming to cultivate academic, social, and cultural development. Participation in the Echols Scholars Program forms the cornerstone of a lifetime of learning, citizenship, leadership, and personal growth in a rapidly changing world.
Meet the Echols Scholars
Maitri Patel
Maitri is a former Echols Scholar and 3+1 Masters in Public Health student from Ashburn, Virginia who majored in Religious Studies in 2019. She aims to apply these areas of study in her pursuit of medical school in the future. She spends her time being a research assistant at the UVA HELPR Lab, volunteering as a Spanish interpreter at the Charlottesville Free Clinic, and spending time embracing her culture through Indian Student Association and her Indian-dance team, HooRaas. In her free time, she loves attending UVA basketball games (GO WAHOOS!). watching Netflix, and splurging on Roots from the Corner.
